Plea in Allahabad High Court Against Rahul Gandhi Election Withdrawn

The Allahabad High Court has allowed the withdrawal of a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) that sought to challenge the election of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi as a Member of Parliament from the Rae Bareli constituency. The petitioner, S. Vignesh Shishir, alleged that Gandhi’s nomination was invalid due to claims of his foreign citizenship. However, during the proceedings, the petitioner opted to withdraw the plea.

The court granted permission for the withdrawal while advising the petitioner to approach the competent authority under the Citizenship Act, 1955, if they wished to pursue the matter further. This decision effectively ends the current legal challenge against Rahul Gandhi’s election from Rae Bareli.

This case highlights ongoing scrutiny and legal challenges faced by political figures, reflecting the judicial system’s role in ensuring the legitimacy and legality of electoral processes.
